Spy photographers have captured images of what appears to be the redesigned, third-generation Chevrolet Traverse during road testing in Michigan.

The large crossover, spotted under camouflage, features additional rear sculpting compared with the current model, the images show, while the overall profile appears the same with a slightly smaller footprint.

The Traverse, built at General Motors‘ Lansing Delta Township assembly plant in Michigan, is slated for a redesign this year. Chevrolet declined to comment on future product.

The Traverse is a key model in a major segment and due for an overhaul. Since it last was redesigned for the 2018 model year, rival brands have introduced or revamped competing vehicles. The three-row Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride crossovers have debuted, for instance, while the top-selling Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer were retooled for the 2020 model year.

GM President Mark Reuss, during a presentation to investors in November, described the next iteration of the Traverse, which will still slot below the Tahoe large SUV in size, as “very much more trucklike” when it is introduced in 2023.
